Beware of Credit Service Organizations that make the claim that they can repair your credit and remove bad debt information from your credit report. 

Credit Service Organizations can only request payment arrangements with your debtors and assist you in writing a letter to report any erroneous information from your credit report to the appropriate credit reporting agency.  “But they can’t fix your credit or remove accurate, verified owed debts.

Request your free credit report annually.  (Note:  If you are declined credit, you can request, from the business, the name of the agency to get a copy of that report.)

Review your credit report to make sure it does not contain any inaccuracies derogatory entries, if so, you can challenge it.

Order a FICO report annually, and be informed that it is separate from the credit report, and there is a fee for this report.

 If you can negotiate a payment plan, make sure they report what is agreed.
